ABOUT
MARCEL AURET
I was born in 1975 in Pretoria, South Africa, where I have remained deeply connected to my roots and artistic journey. My passion for art began in 1985, and over the years, I have honed my craft in various mediums, including watercolor on paper, oil on stretched canvas, and charcoal on paper.
My artistic journey has been enriched by my regular participation in life drawing events and occasional group exhibitions. My work is often centered around cars and motor racing—a passion that I have nurtured since childhood. These subjects allow me to merge my technical knowledge with my creative expression, resulting in pieces that resonate deeply with both car enthusiasts and art collectors. My works are often showcased and sold at local car shows and gatherings, where I connect with like-minded individuals who appreciate the intersection of art and automotive design.
With a background as a qualified mechanical engineering technologist, I bring a unique perspective to my art. My understanding of the intricate details of machinery and movement has significantly influenced my approach to painting. My current focus is on capturing the dynamic energy of racing cars, motorcycles, hypercars, vintage cars, special edition/concept cars which I meticulously research to ensure each piece reflects the authenticity of a specific car in a specific event or in all its glory on the showroom floor.
These scenes, often painted as action sequences to capture the raw power and speed of the motorcar whilst not losing any detail from motion blur (fast shutter speed) or painted as they would be parked in optimal lighting, are brought to life on acid-free A3 paper (30cm x 42cm, or 12"x16"). Every piece I create is signed and dated, a mark of the care and dedication I invest in each artwork.
Today, as a full-time artist, I am committed to pushing the boundaries of my craft, welcoming commissions of any size, and continuing to explore the vibrant world of motor racing and other mechanical marvels through my art.
